The incident, which unfolded in the Powderhorn neighborhood, began with a report of a counterfeit $20 bill at a grocery store. Floyd's subsequent arrest and fatal encounter with police officers shocked and outraged the nation.

Video footage of the incident captured the harrowing moments as Floyd was pinned to the ground by Officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes. Despite Floyd's repeated pleas that he couldn't breathe, Chauvin and other officers continued to restrain him until he became unresponsive. Floyd was declared dead at a nearby hospital.
